Having good Bait is important when your job requires you to catch Fish daily. That’s why the guides of Alaska Drift Away Fishing only use Nate’s Bait. Judging by the success we’re having with it, I think it is safe to say Nate’s Bait is a favorite among King Salmon.

As we discussed in part one of the Summer Fishing Strategies series, success for catching fish in the sunny season requires a different strategy than success in the fall. For example, pier fishing in California during the summer comes along with different obstacles as the piers and beaches become more crowded, scaring fish away.
In part two of this series we will give you three more tips to follow for the remainder of your summer fishing adventures.
To conclude the Summer Fishing Strategies series, we have discussed five essential Strategies for increasing your catch in the summer heat. You learned it was best to fish at early hours, search for signs of bites, use a light tackle, how to prolong your bait and to ask local anglers for advice (as long as they like you). Be mindful of these approaches and your summer catch will be a success!

I haven’t been fishing in over 35 years. I want to take my son and expose him to it. What’s a good bait to use? This would be in the SF Bay Area in California if it makes any different.
Are lures appropriate? If so, what would be some good ones, and what techniques do you use with them?
corn ,salmon eggs, roe, mini marsh mallows, power bait, spinners spoons .

I do a lot of fishing and would like to know of any new bait to use when worm don’t work.
I would recommend several baits for trout, all of them live being that it appears you aren’t an artificial purist. You could use meal-worms, red-worms, hellgrammites, small crayfish, minnows (generally the smaller the better, hooked through the tail with a split shot a foot up the line), maggots, leeches.
You could also purchase any one of Berkley Powerbait, or Gulp products at your local Wal-Mart. I would recommend either chartreuse or yellow Powerbait.
Other good baits are yellow kernels of corn, white bread balled around your hook, and small marshmallows.
I have seen trout caught on chewing gum and all sorts of wild things, so don’t be afraid to try something new.

I have a casting net out on the porch and a snake is caught in it. I hate snakes. No special reason.. They just scare the hell out of me. I don’t want to cut the casting net because i was planning on using it. I want to know since the snake will probably die there anyway would it be good bait if i cut it into sections?
Just pull the casting net onto dry land. The snake will slither away when it feels safe. Then you won’t have to hurt your net or the snake. I’m not going to give you a lesson about the importance of snakes in nature, but just let it be.

I’m going fishing today for the first time since about five years ago, i just bought a brand new fishing rod (*it has a reel and all*) Do you know how to line the reel’s line to the pole? Because im lost when it comes to that
ALSO
I’m fishing for bass i have no bait just household food would bread work?
how about stale white bread or wheat bread hah:)
I’ve caught small spotted bass using corn, but that doesn’t make it a good bait. Once I caught a 8inch bass while reeling in my corn to re-cast. It nailed the corn, I’m guessing it thought the yellow of my corn was the flash from the sides of a small gizzard shad or alewife. That being said, corn is still not a good bass bait.
You’ll need some nightcrawlers, minnows, or crayfish for decent sized bass.

Pretty simple question for fishermen/women out there, what’s been getting the most trout lately? Don’t get me wrong, I know this question will probably get me absolutely nowhere in my future days of fishing this year, but I just want some insight.
I was out fishing for almost eight hours today at a local lake. Pulled in a total of sixteen fish. Twelve that were trout, but only kept five of ‘em. I used nightcrawlers and sometimes green colored Powerbait (Powerbait might be PA only…I don’t know).
Any tips would be great, I just don’t want another day like today.
Thanks.
Power worms , Pink Power fish eggs , cheese , small marshmellows , and even some very small spinners ( inline only ) Best to go to an area as they are stocking the trout heere in Texas due to heat .

I’m going fishing with a friend on a dock this weekend. What is some good bait around the house that I can use? I rarely go fishing and she wanted to go so I was like okay yea lets do it this weekend. Like I said, I don’t go fishing very often so I’m not about to go to the store and buy loads of good bait so what are some good ones I can find around the house?
Your best bet is worms. Look around the damp spots in your area, especially under a pile of leaves, pieces of wood or even any cardboard that have lain on the ground for a while. Collect a few worms and you will be in business.

I am looking to do some more fishing in washington, and want some good bait. the bait would be for either lake/river fish like trout or any saltwater fish you can catch of a dock. this is in the Puget Sound area of Washington. also, i could use some good stores to get this stuff. please help.
Dont listen to that punk .He will be violated .Go with the basic bait .Night crawlers @ minnows .Live bait works best .There must be a good tackle shop near you . check the local phone book .Fish structure .Rocks ,wood , ledges @ drop offs .Use light line .Go with spinning reel .Start out small fish and work your way up .

ok, so i’ve been a spinning reel fan for years, I’d like to try a good bait casting reel, i fish primarily for bass and i’d like to keep it under the $250.00 range so who makes a good one to start with and learn the tricks with?
If you can spend up to $250, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the Shimano Curado 200 for about $169.00. The Variable Braking System allows anyone to learn baitcasting while keeping backlashes to a minimum. I would match this reel against any $500 reel made today. I own three Curados, an Abu Garcia Revo, and two Quantum Energy PT baitcasters, and I would trade all the others for one more Curado. Invest in your equipment and your learning curve will be alot faster.
Best of luck to you!

Ive been fishing around horseneck beach,MA for a while and ive been wondering what a good bait to use ive been using crab and im just wondering if their is something better to use.
Crab is pretty good for the variety of fish species in your area. I suspect you are targeting striper… If so I would try using clam, herring, bunker, mackerel, squid, or better yet eels. If your fishing flounder try using squid as this works extremely well for me.

I know live bait like shiners/worms are great, but i dont really like to kill something to catch bass with a bobber. I also know that lures like spinners/plastics work well, but i wanna use a bobber/bait tactic.
so does anyone know a bait that can be bought in which the bass will eat from a bobber and hook?
well, if you want to catch fish with a bobber, in most cases something’s gonna die. whether you kill it pinning it on a hook or the bass kills it when eating it. many of the fish you catch are going to die also. even if released. the problem will be in the fish swallowing the bait and being deeply hooked and mortally wounded when you pull the hook out. best to just gently handle the fish and cut the line letting the fish have the hook.
there are jigs you can use under a float for crappie, bass and other species worked with a slow retrieve. you can hook a plastic worm in the middle with a good sized hook and let it dangle a few feet deep, retrieving it very slowly while giving it gentle twitches. let it sit for a few minutes at a time letting wave and wind action give it a tantalizing action. l just came up with this and it has been producing some. l added my name to it. the "wormist" rig. gonna be the next big thing on the B.A.S.S. circuit.
try some of those "gulp" type baits/lures. they are actually edible for the fish and are biodegradable. there are other brands besides berkley, but the berkley gulp is quite good.

who makes a crank bait without the noisy rattles? im fishing simi clear and the rattles in crank baits dont help.one with a coffin lip would be even better.i called bass pro does anyone actually bass fish that works there.. they didnt have a answer.
Rapala makes a few crank baits that do not have rattles in them. Most of their olders styles can be found that will meet your needs. However, Salmo does have a pretty good bait that might be want you want, sans coffin bill. Check it out at cabelas under crank baits

I love to fish, but it’s been a bit dry down here and I can’t find any worms.(dads rule-find your own bait.) Is there anything that’s common in houses that would work? (I’ve heard corn works, but I’m not too sure…)
Corn is a decent bait and will catch trout and carp very well, and you will occasionally catch a bullhead or channel cat, and sometimes even hungry bluegills like corn, along with chubs.
Bread molded around a hook is pretty good also. It will catch carp, and chubs, and even maybe bluegill and a catfish or two.
Dry cat/dog food is a very good bait for catfish.
Other than that there is many many dough baits you can make out of stuff out of the fridge, the cabinet, etc.

I am a beginner at fishing and need to know what are good bait for trout PLEASE HELP
it’s snowflower resort at Mammoth Lakes and their are numerous baits but first you need to be set up with the right gear. Starting with: I hope you have a light weight spinning rod and a freshly cleaned and lubed reel that has it’s drags working at all levels. Then use 2 pound low visibility XL clear line by trilene. I cast kastmasters and super dupers mostly at Mammoth and smaller blue fox, rooster tails and mepps spinners from shore casting them as far as I can and counting down (as my casted bait sinks) to retrieve them at different depths until I find the depth the fish are swimming around at. Or I use what is called a sierra cocktail which is a couple baits on a small treble hook suspended with a 3/8 oz sinker tied on 20 inches below the bait. On each one of the trebles hooks, put one Berkley power egg, a small (miniature)white marshmallow and a 2" section of a night crawler. Lastly put a small ball of power bait on the line and re press it into a solid chunk after you push it down on to the hook from above on the line to hold all the three things on the hooks. wipe your hands and the line to remove residue. This combination of baits works up there at Mammoth and june loops lakes in creeks and streams and even down here on the big stocked trout at santa ana river lakes and Irvine lakes and it works good. The only problem is that you are fishing near too on the bottom and if the trout are higher up in the water column you won’t get bit too often. So, if you can find where there is a creek dumping into the lake or a water fall, fish as close to it as you can get. The trout love oxygenated water and they will go to the bottom to get out of the turbulence where they can watch for fall in food from the water pouring in above them.(where your bait will be waiting for them). Replace the nightcrawler part fairly often as it needs to wiggle around a bit. Meeley worms will work almost as good, instead.

Hey going fishing tomorrow what’s a really good bait to catch cat fish and trout? Last time I went these guys were pulling fish out left and right. Please help:)
wow there is so many. Lets start with trout: Small spinners are obvious, salmon eggs are great, i have also ( believe it or not ) had excellent success with cut bait. you can also buy the artificials at local bait shops or even walmart.
Cats: Great success with chicken liver. Night crawlers, if you can find crawfish tails they also work well, you can try the stink bait if you want . I havent had good success and i cant stand the smell. Good luck, hope thi helps in he future.
