Will largemouth bass ALSO bite on the same kind of worms as well? How heavy should my line/leader be?

Nightcrawlers always work the best and yes, the bass may take a whack at them too! But normally, you use lures to catch bass with! That means standing up, casting and reeling back in to attract the bass and hopefully they’ll go for the bait (lure)! It all depends on the weather, the area you’ll go fishing at, whether or not the bass and the trout will actually be biting or what they’ll be going for (meaning they might not be hitting off of worm, but powerbait instead or salmon eggs or corn), how deep the water will be, and whether or not there will be obstacles in your way (i.e. weeds in which case you’ll need certain lures to go through them and they can be expensive too or else you’ll get snagged on them and you’ll more than likely have to break your line to get "unstuck!")! Know how deep the water depth will be by asking someone around there so this way you’ll know where to put the weight at and what kind to use!

I always used worms..or minnows.

If you want a real good lure, invest in a couple bags of Yum Dingers. They are by far the greatest lure I have ever used. They are only $4 for 10 of them so they arent that expensive. I would also buy 2 spinnerbaits and a buzzbait. 1 red spinnerbait and 1 white. For the buzzbait get a black one. If you have these on hand i can garentee you’ll catch some nice bass.

good luck!

Perferable 100 miles west, in the mountains. I know of a couple places but an unsure if all of the ice is off of the lake (alt. 12,000ft).
I have lived here for a few years and to tell you the truth I am all Bear Creeked out. Only a few miles from me.

Try Red Feather Lakes.

i am a fisherman and i send all my money on stink bait during the summer. I use stink bait and worms i need to know what the best stink bait is. so i dont have to buy 100 differnt kinds of stink bait. so if you can help me plz.

One of the best, and least known, stinkbaits is rancid chopmeat.

I once watched an elderly gentlemen literally fill a stringer, in the daytime, fishing for cats with that bait. He’d mold a ball of it on a treble hook and freespool it under a large bobber.

If you watch the sales you can usually get a good deal on chopmeat just before it passes the use-by date. Freeze the bulk of it in fishing-trip size quantities, and take one out a few days before actually going fishing, leaving it out to both defrost and turn bad. Or, alternatively, let it go bad first, then freeze in trip-sized amounts.

If you want big catfish, though, stink baits are not the best. Trophy catfish actually prefer live bait (bluegill are popular) or cutbait (shad, skipjack).

Here’s some info on fishing for big cats:

( Velveeta cheese with some bread crumbs), caught a trout, and it spat out the bait disgustedly and said: "Man, you are cheap! Decent folk mix Velveeta cheese with Ritz crackers!", jumped into the water and swam away, to surface once more and shout: "And wait till I tell other trout!"?

I would say to myself " Oh la la , that White River trouts are real gourmets".

I go fishing every year in Sage Lake in Hale Michigan, and I’ve had recent success with walleye rigs and crawler harnesses, but I’d like to know if there is anything else out there that works well, and is relatively cheap. The lake has areas that are 80 feet deep, and some that are a few inches. I’ve had the most success where the water is about 10 to15 feet, with weeds that reach the surface, right near a 60 foot drop-off. Any tips?

When I target pike, I prefer Mepps in-line spinners. My experience has shown that pike are not very descriminant in their food choice. They are mean and extremely territorial. This means that they will take pretty much whatever you throw out there.

I like the Mepps spinners mainly because they are durable and can be used on all lakes for pike. When fished properly, they work well in moderate weeds. Just cast to the edge of the weed bed and the pike will follow it out. I also like to use a 6 in. steel leader to keep from having to retie after every fish.

and what is the best?

There are several types of bait for catching Bass, including live bait and artificial lures. Choosing the best bait is one of the first Bass fishing basics to learn.

Live bait can be peelers or soft back crabs, which are really fine baits for Bass. A peeler is a crab when it’s in the process of losing its old shell, (to test if a crab is a peeler, try lifting the rear end of its shell; it should come away easily). A crab is a soft back when it has already discarded its old shell but before its new shell has hardened.

Other good live baits for Bass fishing include sand-eels, lugworm, and rag worm. Sand-eels can be collected from wet sand where they lie buried on a receding tide. They can be used as a dead bait but are more effective as live bait. Both lugworm and rag worm can be dug at low tide and will keep for a couple of days wrapped in damp newspaper. You can also try what is called a ā€œbait cocktail,ā€ which consists of both crab and worm on the same hook.

Other popular Bass fishing baits are artificial lures. There are many, many types of artificial lures – too many to list completely here. It is advised to visit your local tackle store and ask for the most popular types of artificial lures for your local area. Start off simple with just a handful, which should include a couple of (top water baits) a couple of (spinner baits) and a couple of (plastic or rubber lures). As with the live baits these should all be retrieved slowly when fishing for Bass. The following is a list of some of the more popular artificial lures for Bass fishing:

Zara Spook
Senko
Floating Worm
Superfluke
Torpedo
Buzz Bait
Pop-R
Tournament Frog ,this bait is excellent for casting in and around lily pads, matted grass, fall downs and reeds.
Spinner Bait – made by several different companies. A spinner bait is one of the most versatile Bass baits to be used because it can be worked several different ways.

I am thinking about opening up a small bait and tackle shop and I am having a hard time finding actual wholesalers.

No one can answer this question better than Zoom. Contact them directly. If they can’t sell you the quantity you requested, they will let you know where their local dealers are.

Addition:
You could also attend trade shows. Sometimes, obtaining a catalogue for the trade show alone will provide sufficient information.

I going fishing all the time and just recently started using gulp bait shrimp which work really well on trout. But i was wondering if i should try a different shape gulp bait like a crab or squid if i am targeting red fish.
Please let me know if any one has any experience with this.

The Berkley Gulp Saltwater Jerk Shad is #1 in my book, (even better than the Shrimp).Redfish go APE for these things!

Rigged with a 5/0 offset hook it is virtually weed and snag free! If your fishing in waters over 5-6Ft use a screw-in, bullet, worm weight.

If your fishing in muddy/stained water the "Nuclear Chicken Glow" works well.

Other good colors are "Sardine", "Rootbeer Gold", & "New Penny".

Need a more "stealthy", "searching" Gulp lure? Try a 1/4 OZ Jig and Gulp Saltwater Pogy.

Gulp is fantastic for Saltwater fishing!

There are so many possibilities that it’s difficult to pin down one as the best. There’s corn, cheese, and marshmallows but those seem weird to me. To me they simply don’t seem like something that fish, especially the trout I love so much, should eat. In reality they don’t, stocked trout do. To me stocked trout are kind of like those goldfish in the pet store. I simply don’t like the fact that stocked trout are raised in an aquarium, and then released so that we can "catch" them. But I suppose the point is that they do eat those 3 baits. The other point is that no matter what I think about stocked trout, when the rivers are too high to fish, I go to my local lake and catch them. So I suppose when it comes to stocked trout, I’m a bit of a hypocrite.

After these three baits, we have the synthetic baits. These are the trout bait that come in little jars. I’m sure you know what I’m referring to? The most popular type is probably Berkley Powerbait. For these stocked trout that I was just railing against, these baits work great! Powerbait, still fished on a set of gang hooks, is a deadly combination for catching trout in a lake that has been stocked. For stocked trout, which most trout in lakes, synthetic trout baits are hard to beat. My friends and I have joked that they must feed the trout this stuff in the hatcheries, because they freakin’ love it!

There are also the live baits. Trout baits such as mealworms, maggots, crickets, grasshoppers, and of course the grand daddy of them all, the worm. A live worm is probably the best trout bait that God ever created. I’ve personally caught more trout using a live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks than I care to remember. The combination is truly deadly. Especially when drifted down the current of a flowing river. In my mind a live worm rigged on a set of pre-tied gang hooks and then bounced off the bottom of a flowing river or stream is, hands down, the best trout bait.

Thats about all the help you will nead

What is the best bait to use when fishing at Cayucos pier?

I’m fishing for shark.

fishing from a pier for shark, I would have to say cut bait or lures. Either use frozen squid – usually you can get a few in a block – use a whole one – usually they’re small. Or bring another pole and catch some smaller non-gamefish and use them for bait – cut em with a knife so they bleed a little but don’t kill them.

Best bait for anything is anything that occurs naturally in the area where you are fishing…

Never been trout fishing, always been a crappie and bass fisherman. If someone has some different choices of trout bait that would work I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

with the question about gear ratio it is implied you will be lure fishing. the mepps aguila and the rostertail are two of my favorites and i use a 5 to1 on my ultra light (4′ 6") and a 4 to1 on my standard (6′) rod. as far as bait goes i use power bait or gulp for cheesy style baits and inflated nightcrawlers.

note to people who use corn..stop it.. if a fish eats corn and your not clever enough to catch it, it dies. they can’t digest the outer shell.
