Vicious mean Cutbow trout fighting, jumping and breaking lines. The fantastic trout catching rig. We were using Berkley sparkle chartreuse Power Bait with Shelton self releasing hook™ and TadPole™ snagless weights. We had most action by pulling boat up on points and fishing from the back of the boat. To find out how the amazing self releasing hook works and to see the animation of release action go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/sheltonrelease.html To find out more about my advanced fishing invention go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com to see my video movie theater with a incredible list of how to and action fishing video go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/sheltontheater.html To see a video of the TadPole snagless weights go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/tadpole.mov There were two hook mortality study done with them in the Eastern Sierras and sponsored by US Forest service and local business men in Mono and Inyo Counties that proof the mortality rate was equal to or less than fly fishing mortality. Since you aren’t breaking off hooks in fish and with the TadPole snagless weights, not breaking off in rocks allows more fishing time because you are not down re-rigging so that gives you more time with your bait in the water and you improve your catch. This is especially important when you have kids, as you will not spend all of your time re-rigging them. It is especially a good feeling seeing them swim away. Berkley Power Bait and these hooks and TadPole make one of the most effective trout bait rig there is. Catch and keep, no problem, you get the hook out instantly, and catch and release couldn’t be easier. Regarding self-releasing hooks. They are design to release fish without touching them. Basically how they work is the eye of the hook is at the bend of the hook and the leader line goes through a flexible plastic sleeve that goes over leader line and when the sleeve is slid down over the shank of the hook it is set and fish just like a regular fishhook. The sleeve has a second line tied to the top of this and parallels the main leader line and is attach by a sliding 3 turn uniknot tied with thread. When you slid the red knot up by pinching it or using a pocket comb it slides the sleeve up and the hook rotates and self releases.
This is an animation of a trout release sequence.

trout fishing

I like to use my silver spinner. Get one with a bight strip on it. If you go in the river use a smaller one, and if you are at the mouth of the river us a medium one. They also like flies. Find out which ones just hatched and go get that bait. They eat it up. Good Luck!

Do they like baits like sand shrimp, or just lures?
will bass bite on sand shrimp?

Try a top water lure or a plastic worm rigged either Texas or Carolina.

Hi,
Any anglers out there have a foolproof humane way of keeping swans/other birds permanently away from your groundbait/bait when fishing, both in the day and at night?
Thanks,
Wayne Allen.

There are no real permanent solutions. However, there are temporary solutions that will get you through the day (or night).

1) Keep your bait inside a cooler when not in use.
2) Take your dog fishing. (Not recommended if your dog is a real killer)
3) Flash them with a bright flash light. This will work on many birds at night. (Flashing worked better than a steady beam of light)
4) Bring a spray bottle filled with water. When birds come close, squirt them directly between the eyes! If you can’t get them between the eyes, any other part of the body will also do the trick.

PS: I recommend option number four. Its a "blast".

I live in florida and am going to go fishing in the everglades. I have two questions.

1. What is the best bait to use when fishing in the everglades
2. What is the best type of fish to fish for

Large shiners. The best fish to fish for would be the Bass. They get pretty big out here and double digit bass is the norm. Use a float or free line them near structure ( Lilly pads, logs, sunken trees, etc.) and hold on tight. I have to tell ya, large shiners are a bit expensive ( depending on area, can run up to 12 bucks a dozen) but worth the money for a memory of a lifetime.~good luck catchin’.

Garlic Cheese, Berkley Chartreuse Power Bait, Balls of Fire and if all else fails, a good ol’ Night Crawler sprayed with some WD-40. Grasshoppers and Perry-winkles are good to.

What techniques/bait should I use for freshwater Bass fishing? i will be fishing in a dingy. what part of the lake should I fish in? (the sides, in the middle)?

It is hard you a good answer considering you weren’t specific enough.

If i’m fishing grass, i like to use a frog, a spinnerbait, a weedless lizard.

If i’m fishing deep i like to use a jig, texas rigged worm, drop-shot, deep running crank, lipless crank.

Just after some tips on how to cure baits like eel and mullet for shark fishing? Is there a formula for adding sea salt or is it just a matter of covering the bait in salt and tuna oil and sealing it in a sealable bag? Where do i then store it?

what you want to do is brine the bait to preserve it for fishing. This is done by using salt (non iodinized) or sea salt and baking soda. The salt kills bacteria that spoils the bait and the baking soda preserves the color. You can add the tuna oil for added scent.

Place the bait in the ziplock bag.
add cold water (filling the bag to 3/4 way up)
add salt ( until water is saturated..looks whitish) )
add baking soda ( 1-2 tablespoons)
add oil
shake it up
squeeze out excess air and seal.
place in a freezer.

It’ll take a long time to freeze but your bait will be more natural looking, tougher and still have the color attracting qualities to catch those big sharks.

Good luck catchin’.

What is the best bait to use to catch Catfish or large mouth Bass

it all depends on what you are fishing, lets say you are fishing for bass you would get better results using an artificial bait like a worm or frog,if you are going catfishing i would you soap bait or dough bait,if you are going after some panfish( bluegill, perch, speck, shell cracker, ect. ) i would use dough bait, red worms, crickets, or small artificial baits like beetle spins, and slap worms i think they are called

ok now i know where to find trouts, but the question is, what is the best bait for that? also… i think this stream holds only small ones, so wouldn’t the fly kind of in line spinner bait little bit too big for them?

trout worms for live bait work
however for hard baits, i would use inline spinners and spoons. For spoons, i would almost use either an all silver or all gold spoon.

who makes a crank bait without the noisy rattles? im fishing simi clear and the rattles in crank baits dont help.one with a coffin lip would be even better.i called bass pro does anyone actually bass fish that works there.. they didnt have a answer.

Rapala makes a few crank baits that do not have rattles in them. Most of their olders styles can be found that will meet your needs. However, Salmo does have a pretty good bait that might be want you want, sans coffin bill. Check it out at cabelas under crank baits

Other than worms, magets, etc. what bait should i use? the fish in the allegheny are catfish, carp, walleye, muskee, Well wat should i use?

Catfish – Fish on the bottom with baits like : worms, minnows, liver, stink baits, or dough baits.

Carp – Also fish on the bottom with baits like : worms, corn, bread, and dough bait.

Walleye – Fish for these eye’s with : worms, or minnows.

Muskie – Live suckers are the best bait for HUGE muskies.

May i recommend that you use at least a MH action rod for these fish, and a baitcasting reel filled with 25 lb. Power Pro or Berkley Big Game.

Happy fishing.

Worms, or power bait if we are talking stocked trout. Salmon eggs and canned corn also work. Helgramites if you can find them for wild trout. Black gnat fly.
