Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Friday, May 18, 2012. This video was shot at the Kitty Hawk Pier at 8:30 AM. North winds are blowing! 20+ mph through the weekend. Sun and clouds. Rain later? Winds will slow early next week and temps will get back to upper 70′s. Surf is a mess with this stiff northeast wind. Lots of wind swell. Could be ok surf early next week when the wind slows and switches offshore. Fish are biting – blue fish, spot, speckled trout, black drum, sea mullet, croakers, flounder. Offshore = mahi and tuna. If you are thinking about an Outer Banks vacation, please give us a look at www.OuterBanksVacations.com. Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Follow me on Facebook at: www.facebook.com Follow me on Twitter at: twitter.com I went down to Malibu, California for the day to surf fish. Every time I threw out my line I would get seaweed around my line. Then I took a break and waited for the water to calm down and then I went back to the ocean and threw my line in and I caught a yellow fin croaker. After all it was a warm and a very fun day in Malibu, California. Music: www.bradsucks.net

1. Siesta Beach : Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Fla., rates as the top beach in the United States, Siesta Beach, with its fine, white sand and clear, warm waters, often makes the cut on Dr. Beach’s annual top beaches list, but this is its first year in the No. 1 spot. 2. Coronado Beach : San Diego’s Coronado Beach makes the top 10 list for its lush subtropical vegetation, Mediterranean climate and fine, sparkling sand. 3. Kahanamoku Beach : A shallow reef off Kahanamoku Beach in Oahu, Hawaii, protects this beach from big waves, making it ideal for families with children. 4. Main Beach : Main Beach in East Hampton, NY, attracts wealthy summertime residents because a centuries-old conservation easement protects the wide beach and tall dunes. 5. Cape Hatteras : Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks of North Carolina offers some of the best board surfing on the East Coast. Other draws include a lighthouse, fishing villages, beachcombing and excellent fishing. 6. St. George Island State Park : Winter tourists from up north tend to like St. George Island on Florida’s panhandle because sunny days in the 50s and 60s can seem like spring — but without the crowds. The area is known as the Forgotten Coast because Florida’s winter tourists tend to flock to the warmer beaches of south Florida. 7. Beachwalker Park : It’s a nature lover’s oasis on Beachwalker Park, on the south end of Kiawah Island, SC, just south of Charleston. Fort Pierce Fishing Report for April 11, 2012 – Went to see what was going on at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. The inlet had a few boats anchored up along the north side of the channel. Did not see any hook up’s at all. Just as I got down to the beach there was a small shark being landed from the surf right in the corner of the jetty. The guy trying to handle the shark almost get’s bit in the process of releasing it. The Flo Rider Came in from a day offshore so I went to the city marina to see what they caught. Turns out they had a great day. I saw lots of Amberjack & Tuna plus some very happy anglers.

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf & Fishing report for Thursday, May 10, 2012. This video was shot at Jennette’s Piet in Nags Haed at 8:45 AM. Beautiful spring day. Sun, 70′s and a northwest wind at 10 mph. More of the same headed into the weekend, but the wind will back off a bit. Yesterday was one of the best surf days of the year so far. Unfortunately. The surf has faded today. Still some swell in the area, but the northwest wind is not cleaning the waves. Maybe some clean waist high waves Saturday and Sunday. OBX fishing is going great. A lot of activity from the piers, bridges and surf – blues, speckled trout, black drum, spot, dog fish, flounder. Offshore = mahi and tuna. If you are thinking about an OBX vacation, please give us a look at www.OuterBanksVacations.com. Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Bahamas surf fishing and some barracuda we (I) caught in the boat. Local Bahamians like to hand line, and they were really giving me a hard time about using a such thin line (40lb braid) and a fishing pole. After I pulled in seven decent size barracuda in a row, they started have a little respect. Those toothy critters sure do put up an awesome fight! Thanks for the great time Troy and Steady Eddy!

Discover how White Point got it’s name. Underneath the surf of Royal Palms State Beach, in the shadow of the old LA-43 Nike Missile Site, lies a place called White Point. Often confused for the rocky outcroppings, White Point actually gets its name from the underwater hot springs aka Hydrothermal Vents. These vents have allowed a unique white algae to flourish, creating what appears to be a winter wonderland below the depths. Dive with us and discover The Secret of White Point. In 1922, White Point was the location of The White Point Hot Springs Hotel, a resort and spa that took advantage of the Hydrothermal Vents, Only a few remnants remain today of the White Point Hot Spring Hotel resort and spa located at what is now Royal Palms County Beach in San Pedro. During its heyday in the 1920s, it was one of the most popular beach resorts in Southern California, especially among Japanese-Americans. Before Tojuro Tagami and his brother Tamiji built the resort in 1917, the area had been part of the Rancho de los Palos Verdes, which owner Jose Sepulveda had used as a cattle ranch. In 1898, then-owner Ramon Sepulveda built housing and leased land to 12 Japanese-American fishermen from Los Angeles who had discovered an abundance of abalone and other readily harvestable sea life in the area. The fishing village thrived until 1906, when the abalone supply diminished and the operation closed. The discovery of a sulfur hot spring in the area led to the Tagami brothers developing the …

In depth video on how to tie a Carolina shark rig, for typical summertime Blacktips and Spinners in the 4-6′ range. This rig is for surf fishing. Feel free to ask any questions about the rig. These rigs are not for anything larger than 6′. Larger sharks will require wire leaders, somewhat larger hooks, and long tailwhip leaders. If you are familiar with a drum or striper rig, this is basically a souped up version.

You might want to go for big game fish of Marlin or Sailfish, Dorado (mahi-mahi) or yellow fin on a blue water charter. Your catch could be sailfish or sierra (Spanish mackerel), dorado, hurel, rooster fish, cocinero or pargo. You can also beach cast or fish the rock holes in the bays. Whatever you prefer, we have access to some great fishing during your Mexico holiday. Troncones neighboring village of Majahua, set in a pristine cove a mile down the Troncones beach road, has a half a dozen veteran fisherman whose covered pangas and seasoned boats are equipped for a great day of inshore fishing. Majahua Bay is populated by a picturesque fishing village that feels like a throwback to an earlier time when sleepy little villages abounded all over Mexico. This one flourishes still and has a unique character that is special. The tiny postage stamp cove filled with panga boats sets out for daily fishing to supply local family’s restaurants and markets. After you catch your fish come back to the Casa Delfin Sonriente kitchen where Maria, our host and cook, will prepare your fish mojo de ajo style or a la talla on the BBQ or in ceviche cocktails marinated in lime juice. Maria and Albert will team up to prepare sumptuous seafood feasts of these and other regional dishes from the area during your stay at our villa.
