Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf & Fishing report for Thursday, May 10, 2012. This video was shot at Jennette’s Piet in Nags Haed at 8:45 AM. Beautiful spring day. Sun, 70′s and a northwest wind at 10 mph. More of the same headed into the weekend, but the wind will back off a bit. Yesterday was one of the best surf days of the year so far. Unfortunately. The surf has faded today. Still some swell in the area, but the northwest wind is not cleaning the waves. Maybe some clean waist high waves Saturday and Sunday. OBX fishing is going great. A lot of activity from the piers, bridges and surf – blues, speckled trout, black drum, spot, dog fish, flounder. Offshore = mahi and tuna. Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf & Fishing Report for Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Beautiful beach day. Warm sun, light onshore breeze out of the southeast at 5-10 mph, fresh salt air and 70′s. More of the same for the rest of the week. Some swell in the water with some ok waves coming through. Not very clean with the southeast wind. Not sure if the wind is going to cooperate for clean waves this week. OBX fishing is going great. Piers, surf and bridges reporting a wide variety; blues, speckled trout, black drum, dog fish, blow toads, spot. Offshore = blackfin, yellowfin, and mahi. Fishing for panfish in southern Michigan on a spring day. The end! There are a few survival, prepping, and fishing tips in this video if you take the time to look for them. Artificial lures are my preferred bait for all species of fish. There’s something about tricking a fish into trying to eat a piece of lead, plastic and/ or steel that interests me. Generally speaking, I could have caight just as many fish by using a bare gold colored hook. Not that I caught a lot of fish. But, the little orange jig head I used allows for a bit more visibility underwater and it gets the hook down to the bigger fish before the little ones have a chance to grab it up. Not that I caught any monsters. Bluegills are my favorite species of fish for the table as they are primarily terrestrial feeders, meaning they eat bugs not other fish. Now, anyone who has observed bluegills knows they indeed do eat fish, but, they eat less fish than say yellow perch or Northern pike and that makes them, according to science, much cleaner and safer to eat. Fish that eat other fish accumulate toxins like dioxin and PCBs in their bodies which are transferred to humans upon ingestion. On Sunday, April 29, the town of Johnston and the Johnston Parks & Recreation Department held its annual Kids Fishing Derby at Memorial Park, with prizes awarded in three different age divisions for the longest fish, heaviest fish, shortest fish, among others. Here, Shannon Pero gives out prizes to winners in the second age division of the competition. One young fisherman, Henry O’Neil, caught two of the largest fish, both about 2 1/2 pounds, using shiners as bait on his Sponge Bob fishing pole. The derby was co-sponsored by "Save the Lakes Rhode Island," which had an informational table set up during the derby.

Bahamas surf fishing and some barracuda we (I) caught in the boat. Local Bahamians like to hand line, and they were really giving me a hard time about using a such thin line (40lb braid) and a fishing pole. After I pulled in seven decent size barracuda in a row, they started have a little respect. Those toothy critters sure do put up an awesome fight! Thanks for the great time Troy and Steady Eddy!
